About the artist

Alisha's paintings celebrate the beauty, resilience, and multifaceted identities of Black life through a vibrant and expressive visual language. Blending contemporary portraiture with Afro-Caribbean aesthetics, elements of cubism and bold abstraction.

She is drawn to the human face and form as powerful vessels for storytelling and each work captures not just likeness, but presence, emotion, and cultural strength. She has been known to layer faces, exaggerate features, create dramatic headwraps, and use rich colour fields throughout her practice as symbols of heritage, protection, transformation and collective spirit. Working primarily in acrylic and oil on canvas, she employs saturated palettes to honour the full spectrum of black skin tones and evoke emotional intensity.

Rooted in a deep love for her culture, her work seeks to fill physical and cultural spaces with images that reflect, empower and uplift. Through colour, rhythm, and expressive distortion, she creates portraits that are unapologetically proud, and contemplative, as a way to invite viewers to witness both the individuality and the shared humanity of the Black experience.
